One of the new Trader Generation II designs, the 42 has been designed to
combine the very best of the traditional cruising motor yacht with the latest design and technological developments.
Designed with Tony Castro naval architects, the 42 exhibits the new Trader styling language first seen on the magnificent 64 Sunliner. The new look is crisp, modern and elegant while retaining the distinctive Trader character.
Utilizing modern production techniques at a new purpose-built factory, we have been able to develop the 42 with a wide range of personalisation options which allow each owner to specify their craft to suit their particular needs. These options include three exterior body styles, a choice of two or three cabins and alternatives
for tender stowage.
Like all Generation II Traders, the 42 sits on a unique hull designed specifically for the craft. This hull has been extensively tank tested to optimise her handling, ride and performance in one of the very best semi-displacement hulls afloat. The fine bow ensures the soft ride Trader owners have come to love while the more aggressive spray rails ensure better control of wash. A keel provides greater stability, more control in a following sea and protection to the propellers. These are set in tunnels to reduce the draft and reduce the shaft angle for better power delivery. Trim tabs are fitted flush with the underside of the hull in dedicated moulded recesses.
The crisp modern exterior lines of the Trader 42 give her a distinctive character on the water. There are many elegant details that have been developed to make life on board as enjoyable as possible, including a transom seat which conceals a stowed table and, at the foredeck, a large sunpad. Boarding has been simplified too with elegant folding boarding steps integrated into the side deck bulwarks.
The exterior helm is comprehensively equipped, with excellent sightlines and adjustable helm seats with carefully designed ergonomics for
comfort at sea.
Being a Trader everything is designed to be practical in use, and we have thought extensively about using the craft at sea and in the marina. Mooring gear is oversized and raised up for confidence and convenience. Where applicable, MCA class XII requirements have been incorporated, including the metre high handrails and anchor/chain specifications.
Inside, the new Trader design ethos is evident everywhere. From the oversized saloon skylights, to the magnificent transom hatch in the master cabin this interior is bathed in natural light.
In keeping with her generation II status, the 42 also gets a new interior style. The crisp lines of the teak joinery are finished off with quality fittings including lock-at-sea catches and concealed drawer runners.
The layout, furniture and appliances have all been developed in line with our “home from home” principal. This means that the boat is designed around real people, and to be comfortable not just for a weekend, but on extended cruises. You can see the logic everywhere; in the size of the doors, headroom, home-sized and shaped beds, the size of the shower stalls, the domestic specification appliances including a full sized hob and the laundry with washer-dryer and linen stowage.
The Trader 42 has been specified as a comprehensively equipped cruising machine.
For each system, we have selected our preferred supplier based on their equipment
and service. We have then worked with them to develop each system for the new Trader to offer the very best usability and reliability.
Some of the biggest and best names in the marine world have their equipment as
standard fit on the Trader 42, including LEWMAR bow thrusters and windlass, MASTERVOLT charger/inverter and batteries, CUMMINS engines and controls
and RAYMARINE electronics.
It all adds up to a boat that is ready to go to sea right from the off – with the added
comfort of her CE Cat A (ocean going) rating.
In addition, every Trader 42 is backed up by our comprehensive two year warranty,
five year limited hull structure and blister warranty and, uniquely, a MASTERVOLT five
year system warranty.
